G.F. Sheridan was born on a dark and stormy, cold
and wintry night in1956. The scene was fittingly and fleetingly lit by powerful
and blinding flashes of lightning, almost immediately followed by the deafening
rapid cannon-fire explosions of thunder. His sweat soaked and red-faced mother
glanced down upon her new-born son for the first time with a gentle, smiling
and tender look, and then screamed!
Over the next several years G.F. grew and grew until
he was enrolled into a brand new High School at St. Ives in Sydney, N.S.W., which
looked decidedly second-hand when he left it seven years later. The teaching
staff rejoiced and there was much drinking, merriment and dancing in the
Quadrangle when G.F. left the grounds for the last time.
G.F then ventured out into the big wide world in
search of fame and fortune, or at least gainful employment. Gainful employment
he found as a N.S.W. public servant for five and a half years, a self-employed legal
clerk working for Solicitors for 19 years and a Lawnmower/ Gardener for ten
years until he sacked himself and headed south of the border into Victoria in
search of a new life with his woman.
The people of New South Wales rejoiced and there was
much drinking, merriment and dancing in the streets. The people of Victoria,
however, did not. There was much drinking but no merriment or dancing, just a
resoundingly sullen, oppressive and malevolent silence.
G.F. now lurks, lives, writes and hides in the hills
above a generally quiet coastal fishing and tourist village called Lakes
Entrance. If you ever find yourself down that way and stop in to a pub or one
of the other places where the locals gather to drink and you offered to buy
them some they may regale you with many tales of sightings of a large hairy
creature wandering the hills above the town on nights of the full moon shaking
its fist and roaring and howling at that moon, and other strange behaviours.
Some of those tales aren’t true.
His first book, ‘Reach for Mars’ has just been
published and can be viewed along with the first chapter of the soon to be
published sequel, ‘We are Martian!’ at: http://www.authorgfsheridan.com.
